The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah has inaugurated the state’s Joint Accounts Allocation Committee JAAC, saying that Local Government Funds must be made to eradicate poverty.
Mbah who inducted the 16-member Committee yesterday at the state Government House, Enugu, described the local government as the layer of government closest to the people and charged members to ensure that the incomes of Local Government Areas LGAs are enhanced through the State Joint Local Government Account.
The governor also stressed that the Local government account is very important and believes in the need to ensure that the people who will manage the allocation, monitoring, and distribution of the account are credible.
Speaking on behalf of the committee members, the Chairman of the Committee Anthony Udeh appreciated the Governor for finding them worthy to serve, while pledging their readiness to discharge their functions in line with the vision and principles of transparency and accountability upheld by the administration.
Urban Radio Correspondent, Ifeyinwa Ogbue reported that other members of the committee include, the Secretary Peter Aneke, the Accountant General of the State Tony Okenwa, and the Chairman, Of the association of Local Governments of Nigeria Enugu State chapter, Okechukwu Edeh, among others.
