PRESIDENT BUHARI SIGNS BILL THAT MANDATES PRESIDENT-ELECT TO APPOINT CABINET IN 60 DAYS.

President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to 19 Bills in furtherance of Section 58 subsection 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters in the Senate Babajide Omoworare said 16 of the bills are Constitutional Alterations of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Idris Wase who also confirmed the 16 bills commended Buhari, noting that the laws grant more powers to the states.

The bills signed into law included financial independence for state houses of assemblies and state Judiciary and bills that seek to remove railway, prison, and electricity from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list.

The President also signed a bill that mandates the president and governors to submit the names of nominees for the positions of ministers or commissioners within 60 days of being sworn in, to be confirmed by the Senate or State House of Assembly.
