The United States has announced that it would suspend the processing of immigrant visas from Nigeria and 74 other countries.

State Department spokesman, TOMMY PIGOTT stated that, while the US has traditionally denied visas to individuals deemed likely to rely on government welfare, it would now use that same authority to impose a blanket suspension of immigrant visas based on nationality.

PIGOTT added that immigrant visa processing from the 75 affected countries would be paused while the State Department review immigration procedures to prevent the entry of foreign nationals who might rely on welfare and public benefits.

Earlier, State Department announced that it had revoked over 100,000 visas since president DONALD TRUMP took office, setting a one-year record.
