The Minister of Education, TUNJI ALAUSA, has announced that professors in Nigerian public universities will now receive a monthly salary top-up of over ₦140,000.

ALAUSA made the disclosure yesterday while addressing the newly reached agreement between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

He said the allowance follows the creation of a new category of remuneration by President BOLA TINUBU, known as the “professorial cadre” allowance, designed to enhance the welfare package of academic staff.

He added that the Federal Government now has the financial capacity to implement a 40 per cent salary increase for lecturers across all public institutions, alongside nine improved Earned Academic Allowances, which he described as properly structured.

The minister confirmed that the circular had since been released, stressing that President TINUBU would not approve or sign any agreement without the intention and commitment to fully implement it.
