Russian government has announced its readiness to broaden discussions with the United States, U.S, on energy cooperation, underlining the Sakhalin-1 oil and gas project as a key area of potential collaboration.

Deputy Russian Foreign Minister, SERGEI RYABKOV who disclosed the development noted that despite strained relations, Russia and the U.S continue discussions on other issues.

The statement follows a decree signed by President VLADIMIR PUTIN last month that could permit foreign investors, including U.S oil giant, Exxon Mobil, to re-claim shares in Sakhalin-1.

The potential re-entry of external stakeholders into Sakhalin-1 marks a significant shift in Russia’s position, signaling an effort to stabilize energy cooperation channels amid broader geopolitical tensions.
