The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has reaffirmed its decision to continue its ongoing nationwide strike across 91 hospitals, despite the Federal Government’s announcement of an 11.9-billion-naira payment to healthcare workers.

This development follows the government’s recent pledge to release funds within 72 hours for outstanding arrears owed to doctors and other health workers, with the aim of resolving the industrial action and restoring harmony in the nation’s healthcare sector.

Responding to the announcement, NARD’s president, MOHAMMAD SULEIMAN,acknowledged the official communication regarding the payment process but contested the government’s figures, arguing that only two of the association’s 19 demands have received meaningful attention.

SULEIMAN maintained that the government’s reported sum for approved arrears is inaccurate and insisted that the group is yet to see substantial progress that would warrant calling off the strike.
