INEC TO CONDUCT 3RD BYE- ELECTION IN ENUGU SOUTH URBAN 1 CONSTITUENCY.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Enugu State, has revealed plans to conduct the 3rd Bye-Election in the 8 polling units of Enugu South Urban 1 Constituency.

The State Resident Commissioner, CHUKWUEMEKA CHUKWU, made this known, during a recent Stakeholders Engagement held at the state office, appealing to political parties and other stakeholders, to support the commission in the conduct of free, fair and credible elections, slated for 16th August, 2025.

Recall that the candidate of the Labour Party, BRIGHT NGENE, currently incarcerated,  hadin 2023, when the election was first conducted, defeated his closest rival, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Sam Ngene but the election was declared inconclusive, andConsequently, the Appeal tribunal ordered a rerun in eight polling units, with the rerun failing to occur on two occasions over reports of manipulation and violence.

 However, CHUKWU debunked negative reports about the previous elections, stating that after thorough and critical investigation, there was no evidence of violence, ballot box snatching, or any related incidents, describing the claims as malicious.

One of the respondents, CHRISTOPHER NGENE, who confirmed their readiness towards the upcoming bye-election, urged INEC to maintain professionalism in delivering their work and not dash the hope of citizens, especially the common man in the state.

However, while expressing optimism towards the conduct and outcome of the Re-Run Election in Enugu South for the 3rd time, the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Enugu State, MARTIN CHUKWUNWEIKE, affirmed to a peaceful coexistence of both INEC officials, Ndi Enugu, and Security Agencies, ahead of the Election.

Meanwhile, INEC also disclosed that, Online Voter Registration will commence on 18th August 2025, while In-Person Registration begins 25th August 2025.
