The Denmark-based Grundfos Foundation, in collaboration with the Red Cross Nigeria Enugu Branch, has enrolled 60 vulnerable women from the Opi community in Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State, for a vocational training program aimed at equipping them with valuable professional expertise.

During the registration of beneficiaries selected from the seven autonomous communities that make up Opi, at Afo Ochie Hall over the weekend, Red Cross Nigeria Enugu Branch Secretary, TONY UDEGBU, elaborated that the project’s stage, which includes selecting and registering women for their chosen skill, will be followed by the project launch and attachment of the women to learning facilities.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the recipients, EZEMA ANGELA from Ibeku Opi thanked the Denmark-based foundation and the Red Cross Society for the initiative, and concluded her remarks by offering a prayer, asking for God’s blessings upon them.

The initiative, conceived by community indigene, SUNDAY OKORO, who is based in Denmark and funded by the Northern Europe Foundation, will also provide starter kits to the selected women upon graduation and reach out to 260 children in the community.

Beneficiaries of the project include 43-year-old NKECHINYERE UGWU from Idi Opi, 22-year-old PRECIOUS EZEUGWU from Owelle Ibeku, and 30-year-old JOY ONAH  from Ogboazala Opi, among many others.
