Hollywood star, Leonardo Dicaprio has testified in the trial of ex-Fugees rapper Pras Michel who was accused of accepting money from a fugitive tycoon, Jho Low to influence United state politicians.
50-year-old Michel allegedly received more than 100 million dollars from Malaysian billionaire Jho Low but he denied all charges, including conspiracy and witness tampering.
Dicaprio was asked to testify about his links to Low, who allegedly stole billions from Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund in the 1MDB scheme, the biggest embezzlement case in history.
In the Washington DC court, Dicaprio told jurors that he first met Low at a party in Las Vegas in 2010, and in subsequent years, he attended a multitude of lavish parties on yachts and nightclubs at Low’s invitation, alongside other celebrities, adding that he lost contact with Low around 2015 after being informed that he was under investigation for his financial dealings.
Meanwhile, Attorneys have also named actors including Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, and Mark Wahlberg as possible witnesses, in addition to director Martin Scorsese.
