The government of Chad has reportedly ordered the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria amid rising security concerns sparked by reports of alleged U.S. military movements in parts of West Africa.

Military sources in Chad revealed that President Mahamat Idris Itno directed a military lockdown along the Nigerian border following intelligence reports suggesting that terrorist elements from northern Nigeria were attempting to infiltrate Chad.

It was reported that Chadian troops and armored vehicles have been stationed along key routes connecting Nigeria, with all units placed on high alert, with President Déby warning that no armed group or foreign force will be permitted to set foot on Chadian territory under any disguise.

Security experts believe Chad’s move is a preventive measure designed to safeguard its borders and block potential infiltration by militants seeking to take advantage of the region’s current instability.
