The President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria Most Rev Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji has encouraged President Bola Tinubu to discourage heads of state from the Economic Community of West African States from using military strength to subdue coup plotters in Niger Republic.
Ugorji in his appeal yesterday during a pastoral visit to the Mary Mother of God Catholic Parish in Upe, Ngo Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State said they are pleading with Tinubu to persuade ECOWAS heads of state to avoid going to war against the coup plotters and avert the impending slaughter that would follow the military invasion.
The clergy said a lot of human blood has been squandered in Africa and Nigeria, and they cannot continue to do so for any cause, adding that for the time being they don’t know who is funding the coup plotters.
He urged the President not to launch any military expedition in Niger, warning that they should think of what would be the fate of the organization if they begin military intervention in Niger.
