Reigning Spanish champions, Barcelona dropped their first points of the La Liga season last night with a 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano, in a match disrupted by issues with the video assistant referee, VAR system.

The 18 year old Lamine Yamal put Barcelona ahead in the 40th minute, converting a penalty he won after being brought down by home defender, Pep Chavarria.

However, there was controversy as VAR was not working at the time, meaning the decision could not be reviewed.

Consequently, Rayo equalised in the 67th minute when substitute, Fran Perez scored with a superb volley from a corner, and the team had a goal ruled out for offside, while Barcelona’s goalkeeper, Joan Garcia produced a late save to keep out Sergio Camello.

Barcelona had won their first two La Liga games, but are now fourth with seven points from three matches, while Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao are two points clear at the top after three straight victories.
