Arsenal yesterday thrashed Real Madrid 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg tie.

The first half ended in a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium, while in the second half, DECLAN RICE’S brace and a goal from MIKEL MERINO gave MIKEL ARTETA’Sside a first leg advantage ahead of the return leg next week.

ARTETA’S men will travel to the Bernabeu for the second leg on April 16 to advance to a semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain or Aston Villa..

 The Gunners have not reached the Champions League semi-finals since 2009, but that target is now within their grasp after yesterday’s evening that will go down as one of the most memorable in the club’s storied history.
