The Rector, Enugu State Polytechnic, ESPOLY, Iwollo, Rev. Fr. Professor NNAMDI NWANKWO has enjoined matriculating students of the institution to develop their skills and learn new ones, as this is the pathway towards achieving self-reliance and economic prosperity.
FR. NWANKWO who gave this charge at the 2022/2023 and 2023/24 5th matriculation ceremony of new students, urged them to shun all forms of vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, extortion, hooliganism, stressing that the vision and philosophy of the current management of the Polytechnic is to produce skilled manpower in the fields of Agriculture and entrepreneurial skills that can compete favourably in today’s ever-dynamic digital world.
Speaking further on what the institution is doing to ensure that it achieves its vision and mission, the rector has this say.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Registrar of the Institution, OBIAGELI IGWESI advised the matriculants, to take their studies seriously and desist from unproductive and unwholesome activities that are inimical to their growth and success in the school.
Addressing low students enrolment amongst young polytechnic in Nigeria, a lecturer, RAYMOND EZENWA pointed out some of the factors contributing to the problem, including perception by students and parents that polytechnic education is inferior touniversity education, poor infrastructure, poor funding, and location of the polytechnic amongst others.
Urban Radio Correspondent, EMEKA CHIBUOKE reports that event witnessed thematriculation of over 300 students as some of the highlights of the occasion included; matriculation lecture, cutting of the Matriculation Cake and administration of Oath on the matriculating students.
