The 9th Assembly yesterday passed the 876 billion Naira 2023 budget for the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, after a thorough debate that tends to bring out the impact of the commission on the people of the Niger Delta region in past years.
In the overall budget of the commission, personnel expenditure will gulp 34.2 billion Naira, overhead expenditure will gulp 17 billion Naira, internal Capital expenditure will gulp 3.7 billion Naira, Development projects will gulp 490 billion Naira and Federal government intervention in the Niger Delta 330 billion Naira.
The revenue sources to finance the budget are Revenue brought forward of 5 billion Naira, Federal government contribution of 119 billion Naira, Federal government contribution unpaid areas of 430 billion Naira, Oil companies’ contributions of 297 billion Naira, Ecological funds of 20 billion Naira and other Internally Realized income of 500 million Naira.
The President of the Senate Ahmed Lawan in his remarks after the passage of the budget said the exercise was very expedient in order not to let the people of the region suffer from further delays.
