6.0-MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE STRIKES EASTERN AFGHANISTAN, KILLS AT LEAST NINE

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake has struck Afghanistan’s eastern region near the Pakistan border.

The United States Geological Survey, USGS reported that the quake occurred last night about 27 kilometres north-east of Jalalabad, in Nangarhar Province and a depth of 8 kilometres.

Spokesman for the province’s health department, Ajmal Darwaish, expressed sadness over the earthquake, noting that it claimed the lives of at least nine people and left several others injured in Nangarhar.

Also, Taliban spokesman, Zabih-ullah Mujahid stated on his X handle that the earthquake which struck last night had caused both human casualties and financial losses in some of their eastern provinces, calling on humanitarian organisations to aid the rescue effort in remote mountainous areas.
