VICE CHANCELLOR OF ESUT URGES LEADERS IN PUBLIC SERVICE TO REMAIN ACCOUNTABLE.

A distinguished Professor of Public Administration, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Francis Okechukwu Chikeleze has urged leaders in the public service to learn to take full responsibility, ownership and be accountable in their decisions in order to achieve the desirable outcome in the public service.

 Professor Chikeleze who made this call while delivering the 50th Inaugural Lecture of ESUT  titled, Extreme Ownership and Public Sector Management: Issues in human capital management held at Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Multi Purpose Auditorium, ESUT, Agbani, noted that ownership begets responsibility and responsibility begets readiness to make the necessary sacrifice.

He further stated that the principle of Extreme ownership implies building a public service that will meet its critical responsibility in the present time, while also encouraging subordinates to take initiative and use their discretion that would bring about good performance.

Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of the occasion and vice chancellor of ESUT,   Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie described the topic of the lecture as apt in the contemporary time because the good and enhanced performance of the public service is a catalyst that would drive the private sector.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the 51st inaugural lecturer and Professor of Civil Engineering, Professor. Charles Ike, as commended Professor Chikeleze for his highly educative and thought provoking lecture, and the vice chancellor, Professor Okolie for promoting learning and scholarship in ESUT through the inaugural lecture series.

Urban Radio Correspondent, Emeka Chibuoke reports that the highlights of the inaugural lecture include the presentation of 50 copies of the inaugural lecture booklets, a plaque and certificate to the 50th inaugural lecturer Professor Chikeleze, by the Chairman of the ESUT Inaugural Lecture Committee, Professor Mellitus Ezeamenyi, as well the handing over of cheques of 1 million Naira to professor Chikeleze, courtesy of chairman of the Governing Council, Chinyaka Oha, and a cheque of 500,000 Naira from another member of the governing council, Engr. Akuvue to Professor Chikeleze, adding that the event was graced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Chike Oha; provost of college of Medicine, ESUT. Professor Uchenna Ekwomchi; Registrar of ESUT, Ambrose Ugwu; the University Librarian, Uzoamaka Ogwo; the Bursar, Augustine Ojeh amongst others.
