The Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Councils and Ancillary Matters has called on members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), FCT chapter, to immediately suspend their ongoing strike.

The doctors embarked on an indefinite strike last week over unresolved issues, including unpaid salary arrears dating back to 2023, unexplained deductions from allowances, and the failure to upgrade resident doctors who have completed specialist training but are still being paid as medical officers.

During an emergency meeting held yesterday with the leadership of the striking doctors, the committee, chaired by DAVID JIMKUTA(Taraba South), pledged to urgently engage with the FCT Minister, NYESOM WIKE, to address the doctors’ demands and facilitate a resolution.

The lawmakers assured the doctors that their concerns were receiving serious attention.
