Polytechnic workers in the country have announced a three-day warning strike beginning from Wednesday, January 22 to Friday, January 24, 2025.
Workers, under the aegis of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic, SSANIP, accused the authorities of marginalization of teaching and non-teaching staff members and depriving them their deserved career progression.
This is contained in a letter issued by the union’s secretary, Nura Gaya, dated January 14, 2025, and addressed to the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa.
It explained that the warning strike was necessary to highlight their stance against the actions of some stakeholders trying to unjustly prevent Non-Teaching Staff in Polytechnics and similar institutions from reaching the highest level of their careers under CONTEDISS 15 in the ongoing redrafting of the Polytechnic Schemes of Service.
The union consequently, called on the education minister to take prompt and decisive action to address the issue and prevent any further escalation, adding that they remain open to constructive dialogue and hope the matter would be resolved amicably to avoid further disruptions in the Polytechnic system.
