A non-partisan socio-cultural and developmental civil society group, Nkpokote Nsukka Development Forum has expressed readiness to support security initiatives across the Nsukka cultural zone.
In a statement signed by the President General of the forum, Barthilomoew Ugwoke and Secretary General, Emeka Agbo, the group expressed displeasure over the recent surge in insecurity and killings in communities such as; Nimbo, Opanda, and Igga in Uzo-Uwani LGA, Eha-Amufu, and Neke in Isi-Uzo LGA, and the frequent kidnappings on the Opi-Ugwogo-Nike axis, describing them as deeply disturbing incidents which have brought untold hardship and fear to the people.
While stressing the need for a collective action, the group reiterated its readiness to contribute ideas, mobilize resources, and build partnerships to complement the government’s efforts in security initiatives, adding that they are mobilizing funds to support the Enugu State Security Trust Fund and believe that a partnership between government and community groups will yield meaningful solutions to the security challenges.
The forum further commended Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu state for setting up the security command and control center in Enugu metropolis and urged him to establish a similar monitoring center in Nsukka, and also prioritize the completion of the dualization of the Opi-Ugwogo-Nike road, the construction of Green Smart Schools and Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centers.
It further called on all sons and daughters of the Nsukka cultural zone made up of – Nsukka LGA, Igbo Eze South LGA, Igbo Etiti LGA, Uzo Uwani LGA, Igbo Eze North LGA, Udenu LGA, and Isi Uzo LGA, as well as community leaders, youth groups, and religious organizations to support the state government’s initiatives and join hands in creating local vigilance and intelligence structures to combat insecurity.
