The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced an upward review of passport application fees, effective September 2025.

According to the new pricing, a 5-year standard passport will now cost ₦100,000, while the 10-year enhanced e-passport has been pegged at ₦200,000.

The NIS stated that the adjustment is designed to enhance service delivery, strengthen security features, and align Nigeria’s passport system with global standards.

The development, however, has triggered mixed reactions, with many citizens expressing concerns over the affordability of the revised fees. Meanwhile, the Service has advised intending applicants to initiate processing early to avoid last-minute rush before the new charges take effect.
