The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, DELE ALAKE, has hailed the judiciary for its support in combating illegal mining, describing the latest conviction of the commander of the Ansaru terrorist group, MAHMUD USMAN, as a major step against illegal mining in Nigeria.

The minister who gave the commendation in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, SEGUN TOMORI, also lauded the Directorate of State Services, DSS,  for monitoring, and arresting terrorists to face the full wrath of the law, assuring that his ministry would continue to monitor the 31 pending terrorism cases against ANSARU commanders.

It would be recalled that on September 11, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted and sentenced USMAN to 15 years’ imprisonment for illegal mining activities, after he pleaded guilty to count 10 of the 32-count terrorism charge brought against him.
