The Federal Government has identified a poor maintenance culture, outdated and insufficient equipment, inadequate human capacity and other factors as the key reasons behind the frequent collapse of the national grid in recent months.

The chairman of the investigative committee probing the reasons for the grid collapses, Nafisatu Ali, who made this known yesterday during the presentation of the report at the Ministry Headquarters in Abuja, also said that high voltage of electricity surpassing the capacity of its equipment in the Jebba and Oshogbo transmission stations, were the causes of the blackouts on October 14 and 19, 2024.

The committee, while revealing aged equipment and maintenance culture as a remote cause of the grid collapse, said during the cause of investigation, it was discovered that Jebba transmission station was commissioned in 1968, and some of the equipment were installed alongside the substation.

Responding, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said the ministry would push for additional funding from the 2024 Supplementary Budget and the 2025 Appropriation Bill to address the financial implications of strategies needed to halt the incessant national grid collapses.
