The Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency, has urged educational institutions, healthcare facilitators, NGOs, media houses, and other primary health stakeholders to join in the collective fight against cervical cancer through its campaign for Human Papilloma virus HPV vaccine.

Director of Disease Control and Immunization of the agency, CHINELO NNADI, who made the remark during its one-day stakeholders’ town hall meeting at the agency’s head office in Enugu State, debunked speculations that the vaccine is unsafe for young girls, pointing out that it has been certified by reputable organizations such as United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund UNICEF, World Health Organization WHO, among others.

A Social Behaviour Change Facilitator from UNICEF, NONSO BARBARA, advised educational institutions to provide parents with accurate and timely information about the HPV vaccine through the Parent-Teacher Association, PTA, meetings, while also calling on media houses to raise public awareness on HPV through news stories, interviews, and talk shows.

Urban Radio correspondent Judith Okara reports that the HPV vaccination campaign will run for eight days, which commenced yesterday, March 25th, across 13 local government areas of the state.
