As part of measures put in place to end incidents of fire in the state, the Director, Enugu State Fire Service Okwudili Ohaa has emphasized the need for fire safety training, saying that the persistent training in every sector, enables individuals and organizations or establishments to be free from any form of fire incident.
Ohaa, who revealed this during a Fire Safety Training for the Management and Staff in collaboration with University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital UNTH, Ituku Ozalla, Enugu state, with the theme, fire safety in hospitals, said that Enugu State Fire Service is committed to constant sensitization of the public at all levels, while they also do the fire safety and rescue job.
In an interview, Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, CMAC, Prof. Obinna Onodugo who was represented by Director of Clinical Services and Training, UNTH, Ituku Ozala, Prof. Joy Eze concurred with what the fire service director said on the need for constant training, while stating that she is thrilled at the practical aspect of the training, as it wasn’t just theoretical.
The resource person who took on the training, Chika Ogbo unveiled the necessary measures to prevent fire incidents and basic actions to be taken to combat fire outbursts in the hospitals and various homes, in other to ensure safety, while waiting for the timely intervention of the fire fighters in the state.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, DCMAC, Associate Prof. Salome Ezeofor, who was also present at the training, said the training was well impactful, hence the need for all establishment, be it public or private, to engage the Fire Service Officers to train the Management and Staff of their companies for a better safety of lives and properties from any fire incident.
Urban Radio Correspondent, Ifeyinwa Ogbue, reports that the highlight of the training is the practical session, where the staff took part in the use of fire extinguisher to put off fire, after the demonstration by two fire officers, Peter Anike and Christian Ngwu on the proper use of Fire Extinguisher in a fire outburst.
