Equatorial Guinea have qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations without playing a match, after Togo were defeated in their second-to-last Group E qualifier game yesterday.
The Sparrowhawks had to secure all three points from their away match against already-eliminated Liberia to maintain their chances of reaching the finals in Morocco, but the Lone Stars won 1-0 in Monrovia, with Mohammed Sangare scoring the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute.
Togo will be absent from a fourth successive Nations Cup, having last appeared at the 2017 tournament in Gabon, but Equatorial Guinea are guaranteed a top-two finish in Group E, no matter the result of their final two matches against already-qualified Algeria on November 14 and away to Togo on Sunday.
Equatorial Guinea became the ninth team to secure their spot in Morocco, after Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, DR Congo, Egypt, and Senegal, already booked their places in the fourth round of qualifying.
